- Wish I Could…raise $33,000 in one night for DMD
research! And we did, at the “Wish I Could” auction
on Nov. 30th 2006 at Spice in Pittsfield, MA. Guest Auctioneer
Alan Chartock brought our unique offerings to life. He sold
two quarts of ice cream for over a thousand dollars – to
two different bidders!! The evening was a true communal effort.
Spice owners Larry Rosenthal and Joyce Bernstein donated
delectable desserts and cocktails. Friends festooned the
beautiful room with candles, flowing fabric, and white birch
branches. Volunteers checked in guests, kept track of sales,
and passed out donated goody bags. Thank you to everyone
who helped, from the graphic designer who set up the silent
auction displays to the friends who donated creative auction
packages.
Give like a Diva…Shop like a Diva…Look like a Diva, held in a private residence in New York City on Dec.8, was quite a day! Hundreds of shoppers streamed into the apartment to purchase handbags, jewelry, t-shirts, gift baskets, and furs. Vendors donated a portion of the proceeds to Charley’s Fund, and $33,000 was raised for medical research! We debuted the new gold Believe bracelet, which was a huge hit. (link to shop page) We are forever grateful to the vendors, shoppers, and volunteers who spent a long day on their feet to support our cause.
- Thank you to David
Grover and the Big Bear Band for putting on a terrific
show at the Dalton School Theater in New York City on May
21, 2006. More than 400 people showed up for this fun-filled
family afternoon. After the concert, kids were treated
to magic balloons, craft activities, and yummy goodies.
The event raised $62,000 to fund medical research that
could save tens of thousands of children’s lives.
We’d like to send a special thank you to the wonderful
supporters who underwrote the event’s expenses and
to those who could not attend but generously sent donations
anyway.
- Singles Mingle was a blast! The January 28th cocktail
party at Redemption Bar and Lounge (keep link) raised $1,300
for Charley's Fund. Thank you to our New York singles contingent
for putting together this fun event.
- San Francisco Dinner: On Thursday Nov 10, 2005 four
friends hosted a Charley's Fund dinner at the University
Club. Benjamin and Tracy Seckler gave a power point presentation
about the scientific research we are funding. The 68 guests
who gathered for this event were an especially kind, interested,
and generous audience. So far the evening's coordinators
have raised $60,000, and they are expecting more donations
from people who attended the dinner and those who were invited
but could not come. Thank you to Chip and Molly Linehan,
Garrett and Amy Price, Seth and Angie Taube, and Grace and
Steve Voorhis for a truly fanatastic evening.
- Gems for Duchenne was a smashing success! The jewelry auction/cocktail
party raised almost $60,000, and the total continues to rise
as we sell the leftover jewelry and collect donations in
honor of the event. Read
the Aug. 20 blog for more details about Gems for Duchenne. Click
here to see photos of the fabulous evening.
- Our first-ever Charley's Fund event was great fun. More
than 75 girls turned out for the lacrosse clinic run by the
English Women's Lacrosse Team. The participants brushed up
their skills, the coaches had a blast, and Charley didn't
put down his lacrosse stick all day! Lots of action photos
are in our photo
gallery.
