- On Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2 pm 500+ people
filled the Duffin Theater in Lenox, MA to watch Darius
Goes West and
to celebrate the launch of Know About It!, a program
for schools that provides a copy of the film especially
edited for students, along with a fantastic web-based curriculum. The
curriculum includes lesson plans for every subject and
interactive activities for students like “ask the
crew a question” and “brag about it,” where
you submit something you’ve done to help the fight
against DMD. Visit www.DGWKnowAboutIt.com to
learn more.
At the Lenox screening, a representative of the Berkshire Country Day School’s “Charley Club” presented us with a check for $500 that they raised doing odd jobs like babysitting. The screening was followed by a lively q and a with film director Logan Smalley. Thank you to the event’s underwriters and to everyone who bought tickets for helping us raise more than $35,000 that day! My friends who planned the event did a better-than-professional job. They have been affectionately dubbed by Logan Smalley as the “Charley’s elves” for their appearance in their Charley’s Fund wool hats and gray hoodies. Purchase a Charley’s Fund hat or hoodie for yourself or for a friend!
- On Friday, Nov 30th we screened Darius
Goes West at
Creative Artists Agency in Beverly Hills. The place
was packed! More than 200 people showed up to bid
on items, watch the film, and drink martinis. We
raised $35,000 that night and made some terrific connections “in
the biz!” Thanks to Andy Behrman, Julia Eisenman,
and CAA’s Jon Levin for planning the fabulous evening.
- Thanks
to Jen and Anastasia Portnoy, mom and aunt of a 3-year-old
cutie pie named Javier who has DMD, we raised an astounding
$150,000 at a Darius Goes West screening
and auction on Thursday, Nov 8 at 6:30 pm in Huntington,
New York. The Cinema
Arts Centre was a fabulous setting for the cocktail party/screening/auction. Visit
Javier’s website at www.hopeforjavier.com.
- On June 26th & 27th, Aidan Leffler's extended family
organized two screenings of "Darius Goes West" and
raised over $156,000 for Charley's Fund. The crew of the
film flew out to Seattle, and Aidan (an adorable 5 year old
who has DMD) got up on stage to hang with the guys during
the post-film q and a. The screenings were held at the Meydenbauer
Center and at Sammamish High School in Bellevue, Washington.
We have made hosting a screening of Darius Goes West as easy
as 1-2-3. Click here to see our new Host
a Screening eKit!!
- On January 6th, James Mercer of the Shins, Joel RL Phelps
of the Downer Trio, and Eric Bachman of Crooked fingers presented
an evening of music to benefit Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
research. Organized by Mitch and Mindy Leffler, whose son
Aidan has DMD, the concert raised $17,000 to support medical
research. Click
